The Everest Base Camp trek is a classic journey in Nepal that is known to every individual around the world. Apart from the breathtaking trails and the Himalayan theater, this is the legendary adventure that offers you many more attractions, compelling you to engage in this trek at least once in your life. Some of the compelling reasons for taking the Everest Base Camp trek are:
The runway of the Lukla Airport/Tenzing Hilary airport, located on the edge of a high cliff, is only 527 m long on the upward slope. The excitement you will feel while taking off and landing is truly otherworldly, while the mountain views are out of this world.
Not many will get the right to say we have dined in the tallest hotel on the planet. But our Everest Base Camp trek will provide you with this incredible chance, where you will enjoy your breakfast, staying in the middle of the prominent eastern Himalayas of Nepal.
All through the 130 m round trail of the Everest Base Camp trek, you will meet and share the trail with the splendid Sherpas who will not hesitate to share their genuine smile, something we have lost for a while now.
Plus, you will have the revered moments at their sacred time-honored monasteries such as Tengboche and Pangboche. On the other hand, the Dughla Pass will reveal their honorary customs of respecting the deceased souls.
The Nagarjun Hill towers above many mountains in the world. In our Everest Base Camp trek, you will also get the exceptional chance to conquer its altitude while in Dingboche.
This rocky ridge is regarded by many as one of the best nature made view towers for watching the beautiful exhibition of the magical Himalayas.
The Everest Base Camp is not an ordinary location; it has been the most legendary site that has been standing as a witness to making various records, tragedies, and histories.
You will be one of the few who will be able to leave their mark in one such esteemed location on Earth.
The 5644 m elevated black plateau of Kala Patthar is the only astounding location on Earth that will bring you the ultimate closeness to His Royal Highness, Mount Everest.
And not only Everest, you will also experience the nearness to the mighty icy flutes of many more Himalayas, which are considered the highest snowy mountains in the world.
The Everest Base Camp trek is often misinterpreted as an otherworldly challenge. However, let us assure you that our trek has placed very gradual progress with enough rest days that make this trek advisable even for first-time timers to the high altitude treks.
After the Everest Base Camp trek, most of our guests have often gone on to tackle the challenges of the Everest Three Passes, and some have even dared to ascend the summits reaching over 6000 m.
Located in the prime tourist district of Kathmandu, Thamel, the All Himalayan Treks Pvt. Ltd is a government-authorized travel and trek agency that has over decades of experience in organizing diverse treks and tours in Nepal.

The team in the company includes veteran guides, porters, and management staff who design travel plans that fit every individual. The company also takes full accountability for the safety and security of every guest and offers prompt and effective rescue management in times of crisis.
The company is also entirely dedicated to environmental safety. You can therefore trust us without hesitation for any trips and treks in Nepal. We believe in providing a personalized experience for each guest, which is why we communicate with each of our guests and create a customized itinerary that meets all their needs.
As for the Everest Base Camp trek, we will offer you the following services:
Our Everest Base Camp trek offers standard services; however, we also present you with upgrade options. You can inform us of your needs and preferred lodging while registering for the Everest Base Camp trek, and we will adjust your arrangements to suit you.
For example, in Kathmandu, you can choose to stay in four or five-star hotels instead of three-star ones. On the Everest trail, you can select high-end, newly constructed lodges that provide more modern amenities.
Please understand that a surcharge will be added based on your choices.
We can also arrange for you an exciting and quick helicopter flights between Kathmandu and Lukla. Instead of boarding a small plane and waiting in the long lines, you can simply fly straight to Lukla, avoiding the long Ramechhap transfer as well.
With this upgrade, you will be able to travel with fewer passengers on board. Alternatively, you can also choose to fly directly from Gorak Shep to Lukla and cut back the hiking days in return.
The Everest Base Camp trek is perfect to do in any season of Nepal except for the monsoon of June to early September due to high humidity, heavy rains, and dark, cloudy days.
If you inquire about the best season, then consider taking the trek from mid-March to May and mid-September to November. These are the spring and fall seasons in Nepal, respectively, which is also the expedition time, and so you will see a busy Everest Base Camp scattered with numerous tents.
In the Fall, you will have a warm climate throughout with clear air for the excellent trails and mountain views. In spring, the trail is particularly beautiful, enriched by the varied species of rhododendrons.
In winter (December-February), you will have fewer facilities due to low temperatures, but the entire Khumbu will resonate with the Christmassy wonder.
The Everest Base Camp trek 14 days adventure, is a Profile II Moderate Trek where you don’t have to worry about any complex technical aspects regarding climbing or rocky terrain.
You will only need to carry a light backpack when hiking on the mountain trail, and you will spend each night in a good, comfortable mountain lodge.
The trek will last 11 days, with each day consisting of 5 to 6 hours of walking activity, with two rest days included. The total distance of the Everest Base Camp trek is 130 km round, which includes various elevated trails.
On such trails, for example, towards Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, and Kala Patthar, your pace may slow down, and your breathing can become a bit more difficult.
However, you will have the all-time support from our guide and porters. The trails are well-made and maintained, there will be accommodations at every corner to pause, and we have adopted a gradual pace and speed for slow acclimatization.
Therefore, the Everest Base Camp trek is perfect for first-time high-altitude hikers and veterans as well.
The Everest Base Camp trek route poses no age or experience restrictions, but it is certainly not an easy trek. Therefore, it's very crucial for you to be in good physical health and free from any medical conditions that could be aggravated by the high altitude, especially those related to the cardiovascular, respiratory, or renal systems.
Additionally, the trek can be modified based on your preferences and fitness levels. So our Everest Base Camp trek is accessible for new altitude hikers, older adults, children, and teenagers alike.
The Everest Base Camp trek occurs at high altitude, where you will be exposed to low oxygen conditions. These conditions often cause dizziness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.
These are the early indications of altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness/AMS. Generally, these symptoms resolve on their own within a day or two if you immediately take proper rest and hydration.
However, if they persist, you may need to halt your trek and descend to feel comfortable enough to continue on the trek. For its prevention, you should ascend slowly, which will give your body enough time to get used to the high elevation air.
To enhance and improve your adaptation, we have therefore designated free days in Namche and Dingboche for acclimatizing hikes. Please take advantage of these days when you will be above 3000 m and 4000 m, respectively.
Also, do not neglect to drink water with electrolytes, lemon, ginger, garlic, or honey. These are the local measures adopted by the Sherpas, original inhabitants of the high Himalayas.
Another helpful measure will be to take Diamox when you already are in Kathmandu, so your body starts to adapt from Lukla onwards.
Everest Base Camp trek demands an excellent level of health and physical fitness. Therefore, it is crucial that you engage in cardiovascular training and resistance exercises, including long hikes, running, cycling, and climbing.
You must also focus on enhancing the strength of your leg and main body muscles, for which we suggest getting:
Altitude Training
If possible, we advise you to get the altitude training, especially if you are a first-time hiker, through mountain hikes or through hypobaric chambers. This way, you will be used to the moderate to high elevations.
Prepare with the right gear
Sturdy, worn-out hiking boots, layered clothing, waterproof jackets, sunglasses, hats, a durable backpack, and sleeping bags are the essential items that will help you combat the challenges of the Everest.
Be prepared for the immediate weather change
Please understand that the weather in Everest can change rapidly, so you have to be prepared for all types of seasons during the Everest Base Camp trek.
Strong winds, cold weather, and sudden rain can be experienced on the same day, for which you have to ready your body and mind.
Right Diet
When trekking, Dal Vat power will energize you, but it won't hurt if you equip yourself with energy bars, snacks, dried fruits, and lightweight foods.
We offer you three-star rated mid-range hotel accommodations for your two-night stay in Kathmandu. On the trail of the Everest Base Camp trek, you will have outstanding sleeping arrangements at the delightful mountain lodges in the Khumbu Villages.
Each room will have an in-room bathroom, hot water, and WiFi (Paid service) up to Dingboche. However, in the higher villages beyond, conditions will be quite simple, where you will have to keep up with the shared bathroom in or out of the lodge house.
Throughout the Everest Base Camp trek, you will get double rooms that you will have to share with your fellow trekkers of the same gender.
In Kathmandu, we offer you breakfast, giving you the liberty to choose your own lunch and dinner, which are not part of our service fee. On the Everest Base Camp trek trail, you will have three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) served at the lodges.
The food quality is always excellent with diverse options. For breakfast, you can order scrambled eggs, pancakes, cheese bread, coffee, mint tea, popcorn, and more.
For lunch and dinner, you can get Dal Vat Tarkari, fried rice, classic Asian dishes, instant noodles, vegetables, and, in some places, well-prepared chicken, burgers, and pizza.
Several beverage options are also available, such as soft drinks, juice, alcoholic drinks like Everest Beer, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. Please note that drink costs are not included in our service fee.
You can bring chlorine tablets or a water purifier to clean your water. However, all lodges provide boiled water to refill your bottle. We request that you avoid purchasing bottled water, as it is costly and harmful to the environment.
We will always have our own private vehicle for all your transports during the Everest Base Camp trek that includes your airport (TIA and Lukla) pick-ups and drop-offs, and a Ramcehhap transfer if needed.
We will also make arrangements for your Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flights.
For cellular connection during the Everest Base Camp trek, you have three choices:
The network reliability is quite good up to Namche, but it may fluctuate from Tengboche onwards. Whenever WiFi is unavailable, you can also utilize their 4G service.
Regarding WiFi, nearly all mountain lodges on the Everest Base Camp trek trail provide paid WiFi (USD 4 to 5 per hour). Another option is to buy a 10 GB prepaid WiFi card from Everest Link or AirLink, which offers a month of usage.
On some trails in Lukla and Namche, you can even find free WiFi, especially at the Everest View Hotel. However, purchasing a WiFi card at Everest Base Camp will be quite expensive.
Electricity is now available in all the villages of the Everest Base Camp trek trail. If there is a power outage, the lodges will have solar panels for backup services.
So you can charge your mobiles, power bank, cameras, or any other digital devices easily. Up to Namche, there are no additional charges for charging, and you can do it right in your room.
However, after Namche, you will have to pay an extra fee on site to the lodge owner for charging. You may also have to use the common dining area of the lodge to charge your devices.
Each of your mornings during the Everest Base Camp trek 14 days adventure, will start with the first light of the day. You can always hear the kettle boiling in the kitchen room with the sweet fragrance of breakfast drifting in the air.
After breakfast, you will set forth on a planned hiking journey that will continue till the afternoon. You will then engage in an hour-long lunch break with the opportunity to take photographs and admire the stunning scenery.
The trek will then proceed until evening, when you will find comfort for the night in a charming mountain lodge. In the warm and inviting kitchen/dining area, you will share dinner with fellow adventurers and the lodge owner, exchanging stories and myths about Everest.
And trust us, each night will present you with a delightful exhibition of the sky filled with stars than you ever believed could exist.
On our Mt. Everest Base Camp trek, anticipate walking for about 5 to 6 hours each day, beginning from Lukla. The hike will not be continuous, as there will be rest days in Namche and Dingboche, where we have placed for you exciting side trips.
In Namche, you can hike to the Everest View Hotel, and in Dingboche, you can climb the rocky edge of Nagarjun Hill. We also promise that every day of the trek will be fascinating and intriguing with changing terrain and scenery.
In the first few days, the Dudh Koshi River will be your loyal guide, and in the middle of the journey, Imja Khola will begin to guide you. Some days, you will walk below the cool, humid shades of the rhododendron, and in others, you will find walking in the more open area formed by the pastures and tundra trees.
Suddenly, in Lobuche and Gorakshep, you will find the stark moon-like terrain composed of rocks, debris, and sand. And, at Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, a glacial wonderland will welcome you.
The return journey will also be remarkable; although you will be following the same path around, the scenery will feel different and beautiful from various angles.
For your 100% safety throughout our Everest Base Camp trek, our company offers you the services of our licensed, English-speaking guide who is a veteran expert in the area. If the group size increases, an assistant guide will also be assigned.
Our guide will continuously motivate you to persevere, and he will also monitor your physical and mental well-being at all times. He will also assess the safest routes and will manage the best accommodations for your comfort and health.
All our guides are well-trained and they are regularly updated on first aid and altitude sickness. As much as possible, our guide will address the minor health issues. However, in the occurrence of any misfortunes, helicopter evacuation may be necessary.
Helicopters are the only means of transport in the Himalayan geography of Nepal. In emergencies, our guide will immediately contact us in Kathmandu, and we will arrange for helicopters to reach the location of distress.
We will also notify your insurance company and provide them with your rescue details and policy reference number. You will have to pay for the evacuation or the rescue cost, but you can then collect your reimbursement once you return home.
Please keep the helicopter evacuation receipts and a certified doctor's approval letter safely. Your insurer will ask for these letters to verify your claim.
If you literally want to experience what Tenzing and Hilary experienced back in 1953, then we suggest you follow the Jiri route to the Everest Base Camp trek.
Since back then, there was no access to the motor road, a walk to Jiri was compulsory, but now a bus will take you up to Jiri, after which you can commence walking up to Phakding.
If you don’t have the desire to walk a long path for multiple days, then we advise you to take a 5-hour Helicopter tour to the Everest Base Camp, which also offers you one hour landing at the Everest View Hotel.
Everest panorama trek also exists, which is a newly introduced trekking trail. This route runs through the Mapya Dhudhkoshi rural municipality and lasts only a week.
You will follow the villages of Salleri, followed by hikes to Selgudi Danda, Kudam Camp, Yotelme, and Khastap, before returning to Kathmandu.
As for the potential extension to the Everest Base Camp trek, there are numerous destinations you can add to the itinerary, such as:
We offer two types of Everest Base Camp trek: one in private and the other in a group of varying sizes. A private Everest Base Camp trek is suitable for those hikers who like to have a personalized immersion in Everest.
We offer a private Everest Base Camp trek for US Dollars 1300. In a private trek, you will have a more personal and intimate journey, greater flexibility in your stops, walking hours, and overnight accommodations.
You can also create your own travel itinerary without relying on anyone else's preferences. You won't have to travel with strangers and can stick to your own schedule.
Alternatively, if you prefer to travel in a group, you can select the group size that suits you. We offer a group Everest Base Camp trek at different costs based on the number of participants.
For groups of 2 to 4, the price is US Dollars 1195; for groups of 5 to 9, it is US Dollars 1175; and for groups of 10 to 16, the cost is US Dollars 1155 per person.
In a group trek, all the related trek expenses are shared equally among all participants. You will also have more opportunities to socialize and connect with fellow trekkers.
However, flexibility is limited, and you will have to accommodate with the preferences of other members. The best option that we suggest for minimizing the overall costs while still enjoying a personalized experience is to travel with your own group of family and friends.
Kindly note that your personal travel insurance is not included in our Everest Base Camp trek 14 days cost and you must purchase the travel insurance separately, which is a mandatory element for the Everest Base Camp trek.
Without your insurance reference number and policy copy, we won’t be able to arrange the permits essential for hiking in Everest. In addition, travel insurance is not an unnecessary expense but a safety net that will protect you against any financial liability that may occur when traveling abroad.
For our Everest Base Camp trek, we advise you to include a few additional coverages to your already bought or new policy, which are:
Kindly know that trekking in Nepal now requires the compulsory presence of guides since April 1, 2023. You must therefore hire the local and registered tour operators like us for the Everest Base Camp trek.

We extend you a warm welcome at the gateway of Everest, Kathmandu. At TIA, our English-speaking representative will greet you and assist you with your luggage.
He will then take you to your selected accommodation in the capital. You will have the afternoon free to explore the enchanting Thamel area. In the evening, our guide will share important details about our Everest Base Camp trek.
Note
We request you to get an early night’s rest in the evening. Due to the increased air traffic in TIA, particularly during the spring and autumn seasons, the Lukla flights are frequently directed to the Ramechhap/Manthali Airport.
Thus, we may have to engage in a late-night drive at around 1 or 2 AM for around 4 to 5 hours to reach Ramechhap, for which we avail you our own transport.
We will take the small airplane early in the morning to reach Lukla, a small town from where all Everest treks and expeditions depart. The half hour in the sky will treat us to the spectacular landscape formed by the massive forms of Everest, Annapurna, and Kanchenjunga.
As the landing occurs, the small runway on the mountainside will give us an impressive experience, and so will the 6187 m high Mount Kongde Ri.
We will contact with our team of guides and porters after which we will leave for Phakding, our first Khumbu overnight village. A very easy moderate downhill 12 km long stone path beside the marvelous Dudh Koshi will descend us through Chheplung, Chaurikharka, and Thadokoshi.
Take a breather to watch the radiant outlines of 6367 m high Mt. Kusum Kanguru. The trail will continue to move down through the Ghat before reaching Phakding.
We will set off again on our unique path to the Everest Base Camp trek. Walking by the incessant flow of Dudh Koshi, we will cross the typical Nepali suspension bridge, after which we will be at Benkar Village.
The invigorating view of Thamserku (6609 m) will cross our path while we progress towards Monjo. The gate of Sagarmatha National Park welcomes us, where we will register for our permits.
Now, the big ascent begins towards Jorsale from where the uphill trail will climb up for around 30 to 40 minutes. Control your emotions as we traverse the 60 m long iconic Hilary Suspension Bridge, below which flows the two currents of Bhote Koshi and Dudh Koshi.
Mount Taboche (6495 m) will steal our gaze while we go on ascending for the next one hour. Shortly, we will be at the Top Danda, the Everest View Point. The ice flutes of Lhotse (8516 m), Nuptse (7861 m), and majestic Everest (8848 m) will reveal themselves.
The steep, cluttered path will now lead us up to Namche, a charming little hillside village with many bluetopped houses and hotels.
We will stay for one more night at Namche to acclimatize to the altitude. Based on the climate and your interest, you can take a side uphill trek towards the Everest View Hotel perched high above the Syangboche Hill.
This world’s tallest record holder hotel is the magnificent stop to see the heaven-reaching peaks of Taboche, Thamserku, Cholatse, Lhotse, Everest, Nuptse, and the beautiful pyramid of Ama Dablam.
You can then use the rest of the day to meet the locals, see the bazaars, and play with the children.
Our Everest Base Camp trek 14 days trip is nearing its destination. But first, we will gracefully contour the ridge after Namche and climb through Kyanjuma Village.
The air-hanged metal bridge will then lead us over the Imja Khola river, indicating now that we are inside its valley. The trail ahead will now sharply ascend us over the slopes of Phungi Thanga (3250 m).
A small picnic here with the emblematic summit of Ama Dablam will be joyful. We will now make the two-hour-long, sharp ascent through the trail, interspersed with the pine and rhododendron trees.
Soon enough, we will arrive at the historic monastic grounds of the Tengboche Monastery, a World Heritage Site of religious value. The sound of drums and the Buddha statue are quite impressive here.
We will, however, proceed to our graceful mountain lodge to end our hiking day amid Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest.
From Tengboche, the soft, calm path will climb us to Deboche. Now get ready for the steepening trail that directs us to yet another suspended bridge over Imja Khola.
The path across will now rise through the 3900 m high Upper Pangboche Village. A short detour to its gorgeous monastery is worthwhile, which is filled with the story of a yeti skull being stolen.
Look around the terrain and notice how it shifts dramatically to an alpine nature. We will keep ascending through Orsho, Shomare, and Tsuro Wog before we settle ourselves at the warm, small mountain lodge of Dingboche Village.
Ending the long, strenuous ascending trek among the massive yet very gorgeous faces of Ama Dablam (6812 m), Island Peak (6165 m), and Lhotse will be truly magical.
We have yet another extra day of rest at Dingboche, thoughtfully placed in our Everest Base Camp trek. It will ready us for the upcoming altitude of the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
Based on the energy and interest you have, you can choose to make a climb to the spectacular slope of Nagarjun Hill. The cobbled, rough, rocky trail will ascend for around two hours before we are standing tall at its summit.
Upload the images of Taboche, Cholatse, Nirukhang, Makalu (8485 m), Baruntse, Lobuche, Thamserku, and Ama Dablam into your memory, after which we will descend back to our amazing lodge for the rest.
Leaving the alpine terrain of Dingboche, we will climb peacefully towards the pasture village of Dusa. From here, the trail commences to steepen towards the 4500 m high Dughla or Thukla Village.
Prepare for overcoming the strenuous hike of the day along the ascending slope of the Dughla/Thukla Pass (4830 m). The vast pile of the prayer flags, and some small stone monuments raised to honor the memory and peace of the deceased mountaineer souls, fill the summit of this pass.
Apart from this tragic memory, the pass is also an incredible point to pause a while to see Lobuche Peak and its base camp. Now, the glacial path begins to progress us along the slippery ridge of the famous Khumbu Glacier.
Watching the horizon decorated by the edges of the Pumori Peak (7161 m), we will soon step into the stony terrain of Lobuche Village, positioned on the edge of the Khumbu moraine.
The main important day of our Everest Base Camp trek has arrived. Following the expedition trail of the mountaineers, we will cross the glacial edges of the Khumbu Glacier.
A momentary pause will give us a prestigious chance to see Everest, Mahalangur, Khumbutse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Lingtern peaks. Continuing climbing along the icy ridges of the Khumbu Glacier, we will soon reach the Thangma Riju or the Lobuche Pass.
From this point, we will cross the glacial walls of the Changri Shar to reach Gorakshep, a small sandy plain at the foot of Kala Patthar. This desert-like place is also the last lodge settlement on the trail to the Everest Base Camp trek.
After a lunch in Gorakshep, we will set off for the Everest Base Camp, walking past the dried-up lakes of Gorakshep and the Indian Army Mountaineers Memorial.
The scree ice path will continue on till we are at the Everest Base Camp itself, where we will be faced by the Khumbu Icefall, Nuptse, Pumori, Lhotse, and Khumbutse, but no Everest.
After a few breathtaking moments, we will return to Gorakshep for dinner and an overnight stay.
Today, we will be standing atop the highest altitude of our Everest Base Camp trek, over Kala Patthar, which is a bare scree of rocks. Certainly, we would not miss the chance of seeing the Everest awakening by the first sun ray.
So we will set forth to climb Kala Patthar at around 3 or 4 AM. The icy and stony scree path is not technical but moderately hard due to its steepness.
Behold the splendid art created by Mother Nature; in front of you, you can see the slow emergence of golden walls of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Khumbutse, Pumori, Everest, Nuptse, Lobuche, Changtse, Lingtren, and countless others.
After this prestigious panorama, we will descend back down to Gorakshep for a warm drink and a meal. Then, we will start our return journey down through Lobuche and Dughla to reach the green, warm environment of Pheriche Village.
It's time that we descend back again to the Dudh Koshi Valley, slowly bringing an end to our amazing Everest Base Camp trek. Our path will cross the Shomare and Pangboche Villages before reaching a little bridge.
The village ahead is Deboche, after which the series of Mani Walls will guide us to the climbing trail for around 30 minutes towards Tengboche. We will again descend the mountain path of Phungi Thanga, Sanasa, and Kyanjuma before crossing the mountainside to Namche Bazaar.
Today, we will descend along the busy trail to Top Danda, Jorsale, and Monjo. We will now step out of the Sagarmatha National Park and walk through rhododendrons and pines of Benkar, Phakding, Ghat, Thadokoshi, Chheplung, and Chaurikharka to reach back Lukla.
Our strong and supportive porters will leave us then, and we will wait for Kathmandu's arrival the next day.
The flight will take place early in the morning, straight to Kathmandu if the weather is great, else we may have to land at Manthali and then drive to Kathmandu.
You will have time to walk along Thamel, the Durbar Square of Kathmandu, or just relax in the green, peaceful atmosphere of the Garden of Dreams. In the evening, the celebratory dinner hosted by All Himalayan Treks will end the Everest Base Camp trek in a splendid way.
2 nights accommodation in Kathmandu with breakfast on twin/double sharing basis at a 3-star category hotel.

The journey provides trekkers with a chance to witness the famous Everest Base Camp up close, explore traditional mountain villages, and experience the grandeur of Sagarmatha National Park.
With dramatic landscapes, ancient monasteries, and vibrant local culture, the trek is much more than just a physical challenge—it is a spiritual and cultural journey. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a passionate adventurer, the Everest Base Camp trek offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience that stays with you forever.
The full Everest Base Camp trek typically lasts about 14 days, including arrival and departure from Kathmandu. This itinerary includes approximately 11 days of trekking with acclimatization days and short side trips to aid in altitude adjustment. The trek itself requires careful pacing to allow for proper acclimatization, minimizing the risk of altitude sickness.
Most itineraries begin with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by gradual trekking through beautiful landscapes and villages before reaching the base camp. The trek concludes with a return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.
The ideal seasons to undertake the Everest Base Camp trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November). These periods offer stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, which are perfect for trekking and mountain views.
Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and lush greenery, while autumn boasts crisp air and festive Sherpa celebrations. Winter months are cold and snowy, making trekking difficult, while summer monsoon months (June to August) bring heavy rains and increased risk of landslides.
The Everest Base Camp trek is classified as moderate to challenging. It requires good physical fitness, endurance, and mental preparedness. The trekking paths involve steep ascents, long walking hours, and rugged terrain, often at high altitudes which can be physically demanding.
While technical climbing skills are not required, trekkers should be prepared for uneven trails, occasional slippery paths, and the physical stress of altitude. Regular cardio and strength training in preparation are highly recommended to ensure an enjoyable experience.
The trek reaches a maximum altitude of approximately 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) at Everest Base Camp, with acclimatization stops at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Altitude sickness is a serious concern, so gradual ascent and rest days are essential.
All Himalayan Treks emphasizes acclimatization by including side trips and rest days to help your body adjust. Staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and monitoring symptoms of altitude sickness are critical safety measures during the trek.
The trek begins with a flight to Lukla and follows a well-established route through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep before reaching Everest Base Camp. Key highlights include side hikes to Everest Viewpoint and Kala Patthar, offering panoramic mountain vistas.
The return follows the same route back to Lukla and then to Kathmandu. Each day’s trekking time varies between 3 to 7 hours depending on terrain and altitude gain.
Accommodation is mostly in teahouses—basic lodges run by local families that provide simple rooms with shared bathrooms. Facilities are modest but comfortable enough for resting after long trekking days. Some lodges have limited heating, so warm sleeping bags are essential.
In larger villages like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, there are options for slightly upgraded rooms and better amenities, but expect rustic conditions overall. Camping is rare on this trek due to the availability of teahouses.
Typical meals include local Nepalese dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), noodles, and soups. Most teahouses also offer Western options like pasta, eggs, and pancakes. Food is generally hearty and designed to fuel trekkers for long days.
Vegetarians can easily find suitable meals, though options for vegans or special diets may be limited. It is advisable to carry some snacks or energy bars for the trail.
Trekking in the Everest region requires two primary permits:
These permits ensure sustainable tourism and conservation of the park. All Himalayan Treks assists with securing these permits as part of their package.
Essential gear includes layered clothing for varying temperatures, sturdy trekking boots, a warm sleeping bag, a down jacket, trekking poles, sun protection, and a first-aid kit. Rain gear is also important during spring or autumn.
Other useful items include a headlamp, water purification tablets, a refillable water bottle, and power banks for charging electronics at lodges.
Safety is paramount during the trek. All Himalayan Treks provides trained guides familiar with altitude sickness symptoms and emergency protocols. Portable oxygen and first aid kits are carried by guides for emergencies.
Travelers should carry personal medications and take precautions against common issues like dehydration, altitude sickness, and minor injuries. Emergency evacuation options are available but costly, so prevention is key.
The trek begins with a 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, known for its scenic but challenging landing strip. After the trek, the return flight to Kathmandu completes the journey.
Local transport in Kathmandu includes taxis or private vehicles for airport transfers. Lukla airport operations can be affected by weather, so flexibility in plans is advised.
The Everest region is home to the Sherpa people, known for their hospitality, mountaineering heritage, and Buddhist traditions. Trekkers will pass through ancient monasteries, prayer wheels, and stupas.
Respecting local customs—such as asking permission before photography and dressing modestly—is important. Engaging with locals offers meaningful cultural exchange and insight into mountain life.
The trek passes through a fragile mountain ecosystem. All Himalayan Treks promotes Leave No Trace principles, encouraging trekkers to minimize waste, avoid single-use plastics, and respect wildlife.
Visitors should carry out all trash, avoid damaging vegetation, and support eco-friendly lodges. Sustainable tourism helps preserve this pristine environment for future generations.
Typical costs include permits, flights, accommodation, food, guide and porter services, and gear. The overall cost can vary but generally ranges from $1,200 to $2,000 USD per person for a guided trek with All Himalayan Treks.
Additional costs may include tips, personal purchases, and insurance.
Hiring experienced guides and porters is strongly recommended for safety, navigation, and cultural insight. Guides help with acclimatization, handle logistics, and enrich the trekking experience.
All Himalayan Treks provides certified guides and trained porters who follow ethical treatment and fair wages policies.
Mobile network coverage is available in larger villages like Namche Bazaar and Lukla, but signal can be weak or absent in remote areas. Some lodges offer Wi-Fi, typically for a small fee.
Carrying a satellite phone is optional but recommended for emergency communication in areas with no coverage.
Physical preparation with cardio, strength training, and endurance exercises is crucial for success. Mental preparation includes researching the trek, understanding altitude challenges, and setting realistic expectations.
Create a checklist well in advance, test your gear, and consult with All Himalayan Treks for personalized packing advice.
Our time with Nirmal was just the best! He Is very knowledgeable about his country and all of the trekking. His laugh is infectious, he really does make everyday so enjoyable. Nirmal speaks very good English and the trips he organised are 12 days long which is a perfect amount of time to be on the road! I cannot recommend using Nirmal as your guide enough! Thank you for making our Himalayan dream come true Nirmal, you're the best!
I did Everest Base Camp and my friend recommended Nirmal who has been a guide for years. He loves to talk and will make sure laugh all the way which will make the journey interesting and enjoyable. The accommodations on the trek are basic but good. You can speak to them about altitude sickness in case you need any help. Would definitely recommend.
I travelled to Nepal on my own and as an older woman approaching 60, I was hoping to join a group when I got there. As time ran out without success, I decided to trek solo with a guide. Nirmal was recommended to me and he was great. He looked after me very well. He organised all the accommodation and food. He was happy to go at my pace, stop and rest when I wanted to, and answer all my questions about the sights and smells around us. He carried my bag, allowing me to walk with a day pack and two hiking sticks to keep my balance as we navigated the mountain tracks. He was very caring and I felt totally safe with him. He took great photos of me with my camera, which provide me with happy memories. In addition to the time spent together on the track, he also showed me around Pokhara, taking me shopping and to visit cultural sights. I had a wonderful time with him and would highly recommend him.
I had a great time hiking in ebc with my amazing, fun and very sporting guide , Nirmal Gurung. His great enthusiasm and spontaneous laugh makes the trekk full of joyous atmosphere. I felt so at ease with his friendly and caring attitude especially when I had AMS after decending from ebc to Gorakshep. I am so in debt to him for being able to arrange my heli rescue to Kathmandu. What an unforgettable experience. I higly recommended him for your tour guide.. on top of that he can speak good day to day malay.

Acclimatization days are crucial for a safe and enjoyable Everest Base Camp trek. These days allow your body to adjust gradually to the high altitude, significantly reducing the risk of altitude sickness. At All Himalayan Treks, we recommend adding one or two acclimatization days either in Namche Bazaar or Dingboche. During these days, you can explore the local culture, visit monasteries, and take short hikes to higher altitudes, which helps your body adapt while giving you a break from continuous trekking.
By incorporating acclimatization days, trekkers often feel more energetic and better prepared for the challenging sections ahead. It also gives you time to soak in the majestic Himalayan scenery without rushing. Our guides at All Himalayan Treks will carefully monitor your health and suggest the best days for acclimatization based on your trekking progress.
