Gosaikunda Lake Trek is a trip to explore the holy lake of Gosaikunda. Located 4380 meters above sea level, Gosaikunda lake is an important Hindu religious pilgrimage site. It is said that during the time of Samundra Mathan (Churning of the sea), the poison was produced, and Lord Shiva swallowed that poison to save the planet. But the poison was so strong that Lord Shiva needed the water. He then landed at Gosaikunda and produced the water to heal the pain with his trident. And it is believed that the pond was made of that water. It is also believed that Lord Shiva is resting inside the Lake even today.
The Gosaikunda Lake trek is 8 days of trekking from Kathmandu. The tour offers to explore the local villages of Langtang. The trip also allows enjoying the diverse landscapes and the superb views of the Langtang mountain range. The hike is also local teahouse-type trekking in Nepal. This trek can be done 365 days a year. But the best time to trek Gosaikunda Lake is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). However, trekking Gosaikunda Lake is also possible during the monsoon months (June to August). During the monsoon time, one of the biggest festivals- Janai Purnima lies and thousands of devotees visit the pond with the great belief of getting salvation.
Two different permits are needed to trek Gosaikunda Lake. The required first permit is Langtang National Park Permit, and the following required permit for the trekking is TIMS Cards. The Langtang National Park Permit can be issued along the way, but the TIMS card must be given in Kathmandu.
After the early morning breakfast, you will start the superb drive to Dhunche. The journey to Dhunche is a fine drive through the amazing green hills, small local settlements and fine landscapes. The occasional views of snow mountains are expected along the way.
From the Dhunche, the route to Chandan Bari is mostly uphill through the pine forest. Along the way, you will cross a suspension bridge as well. The landscapes and the hills and wonderful along the way to Chandan Bari. Chandan Bari is a small local settlement with some local lodges.
The route from Chandan Bari is mostly uphill. The route gets tougher as you are getting to the higher elevation. Occasional views mountains and the spotting of the birds and some wildlife is expected along the way. At Gosaikunda, you can explore the wonderful lakes around. Enjoy the views of the wonderful lake.
After the early morning breakfast, you will be retracing back to Dhunche. The route you follow today is the same way down.
