There are trips that will make their place in your heart forever, while there are those that will bring you a smile that lasts for days, teaching you to accept life as it comes. One such trip is the Langtang Valley trek, which still echoes the effect of the horrifying 2015 Earthquake.
Yet, the smiling faces, the beauty of nature, the warmth of humanity, and the culture you will encounter on the Langtang Valley trek will show you that Nepal can rise and smile again.
Despite being only 30 km northeast of Kathmandu, only a few trekkers take on the Langtang Valley trek. But it offers equally stunning views and insight into the preserved culture and traditions of the Langtang National Park near the border with Tibet.
The entire route of the Langtang Valley trek is populated by the Tamang and famous Sherpa people, who dignify by their ancient Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
As per our Langtang Valley trek itinerary, it will take you from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi in Rasuwa. From there, you will begin your hike through a rich ecosystem of rhododendron, birch, pine, and fir forests, as well as diverse wildlife, including leopards, musk deer, monkeys, and Himalayan black bears.
You will then reach the sunny and warm environment of the Langtang Village, from where a gradual ascent will lead you to Kyangjin Gompa. The massive snowy frames of Dorje Lhakpa, Kinsung, Gangchempo, Langtang Lirung, Chorakri Ri, Kyanjin Ri, and Langshisha Ri surround this breathtaking village.
The next day, you will ascend to the 5000 m altitude of Tsergo Ri, the highest point and the highlight of our 10 days Langtang Valley trek.
This perfect location will offer you the glances of the eternal Himalayas, such as Gangchempo (6387 m), Langtang II/Ghonge Liru (6586 m), Yala Peak (5500 m), Dorje Lhakpa (6966 m), Tsergo Peak (5033 m), Naya Kang (5846 m), Kimshung (6781 m), Langshisa Ri (6427 m), Yurba (6035 m), and Langtang Lirung.
You will then make your way back down the same route to arrive in Kathmandu.

Along the route of the Langtang Valley trek, you will be in the presence of the immensely towering Himalayas of Nepal that rise between 6000 to 7000 m altitude. Langtang Lirung, Jugal, Dorje Lhakpa, Kimshung, and Langshisha Ri are just to name a few.
The Langtang Valley trek trail is still less known and less favored compared to other treks in Nepal, resulting in a more secluded route that offers you the true essence of a real hiking journey.
The Langtang Valley is dominated by the Tamang people of Tibetan heritage. They are descendants of Tibetans who practice Buddhism, with gompas (Buddhist monasteries) found along the route.
The Langtang Valley trek is more rewarding and takes very few days to complete. If you don’t have many days to stay in the Himalayas of Nepal, then this trek will be ideal for you, where you will get all: the Himalayas, native cultures, diverse landscape, amazing wildlife, and warm people.
The Langatng Valley trek is doable all year round because of its shorter days and short altitude. If you dress suitably, then you can also undertake the Langtang Valley trek in the monsoon and winter as well.
For every trip that we organize for our beloved guests, we try to create only a positive atmosphere where your valuable time will be utilized in the most effective manner.
For our Langtang Valley trek also, we do the same, and after you finish the trek, you will feel you have achieved something very significant. In a very short amount of ten days, we promise you, you will have a rich, diverse, and 100% fulfilling experience.
We will also arrange every detail of our 10 days Langtang Valley trek, from logistics (transportation, accommodation, meals, etc.) to Alpine Guides and porters.

For the Langtang Valley trek, we offer you:
When you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport from your home country to begin your Langtang Valley trek, our staff member will be there to greet you and take you to your hotel.
Based on when you arrive, you may begin your first exploration of the capital. In the evening, our guide will provide you with a briefing about our Langtang Valley trek itinerary.
Today, we will discover the gentler hills of Nepal as we set forth on an early morning departure from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Traveling by jeep, we will soon arrive at the green basin of Thankot, which will then guide us down to the wonderful Trishuli Valley.
From here on, the Pasang Lhamhu Rajmarga (Highway) will start to ascend us through Rani Pauwa and then to Dhunche. The military personnel will stop us here to check our permits for the Langtang Valley trek.
Meanwhile, we will watch the commanding profiles of Manaslu, Annapurna, Langtang, and Ganesh shining in the sky. Resuming our travel, the comfortable Highway road will now change into a dirt bumpy track that will end us at Syabrubesi.
It is a small village near Tibet, lying in the perfect atmosphere of the Rasuwa District.
Our journey today will begin with an early morning hike after breakfast to the new atmosphere of the Lama Hotel. The path ascending high above the Langtang Khola will lead us to a typical Nepali hanging bridge.
After this bridge crossing, the trail will be undulating shortly, leading us to Dhomen (1620 m). Now, the trail will be continuously rising, passing through the fir forest.
We will pass through Bamboo (1970 m) and start to climb the stone steps for about 2 hours. We will rest a moment at Rimche Village (2400 m), watching the shining face of Langtang.
The path will not take a steep turn, elevating us again for another 2 hours till we are at lama Hotel, a cluster of small and comfortable tea houses en route to the Langtang Valley trek.
Along with Langtang peak, we will also see the Gengo Lirung (6571 m) illuminating in the sky.
The Langtang Peak will keep showing up as we continue our trek through the steep valley floor. Passing beside the Langtang Khola, we will walk through the heavy forest area to Ghumanchok.
Another military checkpoint will review our permits, after which we will ascend through the passage marked by chorten and Mani Walls. Chunama Village with Langtang Lirung will greet us as we march steeply to Ghoratabela (2800 m).
The vegetation now changes to alpine shrubs as we descend via Thangshyap, Ghumba, and Chyamki, ultimately reaching the Langtang Village.
This once completely destroyed village today has emerged as a new yet cautiously built town with a memorial as a chorten, reminding us about the tragedy of 2015.
For more comfortable accommodation, we will proceed a little further to Mundu Village, which can be considered the new Langtang Village.
We have planned a very short trek today on our Langtang Valley trek itinerary. We will ascend through a changing landscape that soon turns from lush forest to the high alpine pastures of Singdun and Yemphu.
We will also pass by several rushing streams and majestic peaks of the Langtang range on both sides. We will arrive early in Kyangjin Gompa with plenty of free time to explore the monastery and its rituals.
We may even check out the cheese factory set up with the help of the Swiss.
The early morning at Kyangjin Gompa will be just amazing as we see Dorje Lhakpa, Kinsung, Gangchempo, Langtang Lirung, Chorakri Ri, Kyanjin Ri, and Langshisha Ri slowly coming into view with the first rays of the sun.
Then, after breakfast, we will head out to climb the Tsergo Ri, also known as Chergo Ri. The ascending trail will be straightforward, with sometimes a snow layer on the trail.
Our effort will be totally worth it because the views of Tsergo Peak, Yala Peak, Langtang Lirung, Gangchempo, Naya Kang, Dorje Lhakpa, Kimshung, Langshisa Ri, Yurba, Langtang II/Ghonge Liru, and the breathtaking base of the Langtang Lirung Glacier will be simply stunning.
We will now get back to our lodge in the Kyangjin Gompa for the night.
From now on, we will be making our way back to conclude our Langtang Valley trek. Today, we will be descending to Lama Hotel hiking back through the known trail, but with a new angle and scenery.
We will hike back down through Mundu, Langtang, Thangshyap, Ghoratabela, and Ghumanchok to reach the comfortable setting of the Lama Hotel.
This is it, our last trek through the amazing Langtang region. From Lama Hotel, we can choose to hike down through Sherpagaon, or we can keep following the known route through Rimche and Dhomen villages to get to Syabrubesi.
Taking our leave today from our support team, we will get in our jeep and travel towards Kathmandu. Traversing the green, calm hills of Dhunche, Rani Pauwa, and Trishuli, we will be in Kathmandu by late afternoon.
In the evening, All Himalayan Treks will graciously host a farewell dinner for you.
Make the most of your final time in Kathmandu and enjoy the city vibe with a cup of coffee. We will personalize your airport transfer, aligning with your flight schedule.
The Langtang Valley trek is possible in every season and on any day in Nepal. Still, the most favored time for this trek is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November).
These months provide dry and sunny conditions, while the temperature will be cool in Kyangjin Gompa, perfect for ascending the 5000 m summit of Tsergo Ri.
In March and April, particularly, the forests of the Langtang region turn a beautiful red thanks to the blooming national flower of Nepal, rhododendrons.
In autumn, you will get clearer visibility and stability with cloud-free weather. Summer (June-August) is also the monsoon season, when hiking can be a bit complicated due to the reduced visibility.
The heavy rains can sometimes obstruct the trail to Kyangjin Gompa and Tsergo Ri. In winter (December-February), temperatures will drop, but it is doable to trek with appropriate gear and clothing. You may find some snow on the trail to Tsergo Ri, but it is still navigable.
Tagged as a class II Grade B trekking adventure in the mountains, the Langtang Valley trek accommodates every enthusiastic, discerning hiker looking for a deep Himalayan experience in Nepal.
The entire 65 km-long route of the Langtang Valley trek is fairly simple and easy to navigate. There will be high suspension bridges and some sharp ascents and descents, but not too many, and certainly manageable.
The trail is also nontechnical, requiring no special technical gear. The highest altitude on our 10 days Langtang Valley trek is 5000 m of Tsergo Ri, where you will be only for a short amount of time.
Your overnight accommodation at the highest point will be at Kyangjin Gompa at 3870 m. Likewise, the ascent of the Tsergo Ri is also optional and reachable to anyone who loves to climb and is moderately fit.
As for the time spent at altitude, you will only have three days above 3000 m. Still, you may feel very minor physical discomfort associated with the elevation.
Additionally, the Langtang Valley trek does not involve any local flights that are very dependent on the weather conditions. The trek duration is also concise, as you will trek for only six days, with each day involving just 5 to 6 hours of walking.
Thus, our Langtang Valley trek is one of the easiest mountain journeys very near to the capital that fits any traveler regardless of their hiking experience level.
Langtang Valley trek, both theoretically and practically, is for everyone. If you are accustomed to long-distance trekking with a backpack, then our Langtang Valley trek itinerary will be very easy for you.
And for those who are new to high-altitude hikes, it still presents an excellent chance to get to know the Himalayas. The region is also not as popular as Annapurna and Everest, so if you don’t want to meet many people on the trail, the Langtang Valley trek perfectly suits you.
Similarly, if you have only a few days but still wish to gain the hiking experience through the local culture, along the graveled to wild paths within a short time frame, the Langtang Valley trek is the one you are searching for.
The Langtang region is now being rebuilt cautiously, so it is now completely safe after the earthquake. There are villages now with more comforting shelters. So it is great for families with kids, too.
However, you must go to your doctor before going on the Langtang Valley trek if you have heart or lung issues, blood-clotting problems, or respiratory problems such as infection or asthma.
On any Himalayan trekking adventure, you should be aware of altitude sickness, which is also often called the Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS.
Although the altitude in the Langtang Valley trek is relatively medium and you will spend very few days, still, the risk of AMS lingers in the trek. It can hit anyone regardless of the season or how well-prepared they are.
In fact, it is the condition that arises when one crosses the altitude of 2500 m. This happens due to not acclimatizing properly and ignoring the early signs.
The only and effective management for AMS is therefore to ascend slowly, eat well, and stay hydrated. Also, you should know the early signs of altitude sickness, which include:
If you notice any of these symptoms, don’t go any higher. Rest, hydrate, and manage the symptoms with painkillers and Diamox. Remember, altitude sickness can get worse and lead to serious issues like fluid in the lungs and swelling in the brain. So, don’t take it lightly.
If you already have experience and are used to high-altitude trekking, then the Langtang Valley trek is going to be very easy for you. However, if you are more of an inactive person, then it will be imperative for you to train and prepare before you take off for our 10 days Langtang Valley trek.
Try to hike in the nearby mountains as often as possible and engage in long walks or runs that cover several kilometers. If possible, include some uphill climbs in your runs.
Cycling is another superb way to increase your fitness. Similarly, squash and other sports will also be effective for improving fitness and endurance.
It is also vital to focus on exercises that build muscle strength. Yoga will also be advantageous, as it increases flexibility. Additionally, it is important to pay attention to your breathing.
Deep and long breathing will supply enough oxygen to your muscles fighting the AMS. Therefore, work on deep breathing by practicing deep inhale and exhale while walking.
And, do not forget to maintain a proper diet, which also gives you positive results during your trek.
In Kathmandu, your accommodation will meet the standard of a nice three-star hotel. We will offer you a double bedroom on a sharing basis that will come with an in-room bath, hot and cold water, WiFi, and in-room electric outlets.
In the Langtang area, you will stay in guesthouses run by local families. We will take care of managing your accommodations; the cost is included in our 10 days Langtang Valley trek package.
You will have private rooms with two single beds, complete with mattresses and pillows. We will give you sleeping bags, but you can also bring your personal one if you like.
A newly built lodge may have a private bathroom, but commonly it will be shared and outside the room. You may find electric outlets in the room; if not, you will surely find one in the common dining room.
In our Langtang Valley trek, meals (aside from lunch and dinner in Kathmandu and snacks during the trek) are included in the package cost. Along the Langtang valley trek trail, you will be free to choose from the menu.
Drinks will not be included, though. For breakfast, you will eat at the guesthouse where you stayed the night before. You will get pancakes, eggs, porridge, chapatis, etc.
For lunch, you will stop at one of the guesthouses you will come across on the route. Dinner will be served directly in the teahouse where you will later sleep.
For lunch and dinner, there will be momos, fried rice, noodles, etc. And of course, the omnipresent Dal Bhat power.
You can purchase drinking water bottles at shops along the route. However, it is not environmentally friendly, so you can refill your bottle with boiled water in the guesthouses you will find along the way.
If you need, our guide can also provide you with water purification tablets, or you can bring a water purifier of your choice.
We provide you with a private transfer service between the airport and your hotel on both your arrival and departure days. On the trek, we will transport you in a jeep between Kathmandu and Syabrubesi.
For cellular communication, you can have a local SIM Card (Ncell or NTC/Namaste, better option NTC) when you are in Kathmandu. Your phone will have a good signal till Ghoratabela, and beyond, the signal may come and go.
You can also have the eSIM Card of the Nepal mobile network. As for the internet, you can connect using the 3G or 4G service of the local network, or you can also ask for the WiFi password at the guesthouse you are staying at, but it will cost some extra money.
Till Lama Hotel, you will have consistent government-supplied electricity, but beyond this area, the villages use solar power for energy. Generally, the rooms do not contain electrical outlets, but you may find one in the newly constructed facilities.
Therefore, it is wise to bring along a quality power bank or solar charger for the Langtang Valley trek. If you recharge your batteries at the guesthouse, remember, it will cost extra money charged either by the hour or on a per-device basis.
Our Langtang Valley trek begins from Syabrubesi, and during the first few days, you will gradually climb through the gorge-like lower Langtang Valley.
You will come across two Bhotiya villages in the upper Langtang Valley: Langtang Village and Kyangjin Gompa, where you will spend an extra day to ascend Tsergo Ri.
Each day on the Langtang Valley trek itinerary starts early with a healthy breakfast. After that, you will head out for the planned hike of the day. You will take short breaks to click pictures, enjoy tea or coffee, and have some snacks.
Lunch will be at a guesthouse along the way, which can last about an hour, after which you will continue your trek to your overnight accommodation.
After a welcoming cup of tea, you can explore the new village and enjoy the scenery. In the evening, you will have a warm dinner and share your thoughts with fellow travelers. After getting ready for the next day's trek, you'll finally get some sleep.
Let's summarize the day with time in points:
6 to 7 AM: Enjoy Sunrise and Breakfast
7 to 8 AM: Hike begins with ten-minute breaks every 2 hours
12 to 1 PM: Lunch
3 to 5 PM: Arrival at the overnight accommodation
6 to 7 PM: Dinner and social chat
9 PM: Lights Out
It is quite an impossible task to label any three of these treks as better than the others. Each has its own unique character and flaws.
The Langtang Valley trek will be fantastic if you like less crowded dirt paths, short distances, authentic preserved culture, grand mountain spectacle, and have limited time and budget.
Annapurna trek, on the other hand, is highly accessible, presenting a range of hiking routes, from shorter to longer, and from easier to more challenging. Thus, it suits every adventurer's preferences.
The Everest trek is challenging and legendary, taking you close to the Everest, the mythical peak that fulfills the pride of reaching the highest point on Earth. It is best suited for those who like to achieve an iconic milestone, overcome challenges, and have sufficient time and training.
In summary, if you value peace on the shorter-duration trek, go for the Langtang Valley trek. If you like the combination of accessibility, beauty, and varied landscapes, the Annapurna trek is for you.
If your ambition is to reach Everest and you are ready for a longer and demanding adventure, then choose the Everest trek.
All Himalayan Treks always focus on your 100% safety on each of its trips it organizes for you. All our trips are therefore led by licensed and knowledgeable guides who are well-acquainted with the area.
We also offer you strong local porters to facilitate your hike. Both our guides and porters are proficient in English and will collaborate to keep you motivated, entertained, and monitor your physical and mental health.
Our guides receive ongoing training and updates on first aid and altitude sickness management. If any serious issues arise on the trek, our guide will promptly reach out to us, and we will organize your transfer and rescue.
We will also timely inform your insurance company and provide them with your rescue details.
If your time and budget allow, then you can incorporate several routes into your Langtang Valley trek itinerary. Such as:
Tamang Heritage Trek: It was introduced in 2004 as a variation of the Langtang Valley trek and offers a highly traditional and authentic experience. You can engage with the local community and enjoy the equally beautiful scenery.
Gosaikunda Lake: After the Langtang Valley trek, you can then ascend to the sacred Gosainkund Lake dedicated to Shiva. You will also overcome the 4610 m altitude of the Lauribina Pass en route.
Helambu Trek: After finishing your Langtang Valley trek itinerary, you can then return via the Helambu trail, such as Tarkeghyang, Sermanthang, and Melamchi.
Ganja La Pass and Pangsang Pass: For added spice, challenge, and adventure, you can also integrate the 5130 m crossing of the Ganja La or the 3800 m crossing of the Pansang Pass to your Langtang Valley trek itinerary.
Great Himalaya Trail (GHT): If you want to be a part of the legendary Great Himalaya Trail, then choose the 5320 m high Tilman pass to add to your Langtang Valley trek.
All Himalayan Treks offer you the choice of either a private or group Langtang Valley trek. Private trek means freedom and a self-reflective journey that is hard to find in a group setting.
When you trek privately, it means you get to decide everything: the trail, the speed, and when to take breaks. You don’t need to compromise with a group, so every choice is yours.
You can listen to your own needs and adapt to the environment with ease, but this freedom does come at a higher price.
Group trek, on the other hand, means increased safety and a more enjoyable experience. Sharing the journey with others allows you to make new connections.
You will also have already organized logistics, so you don’t have to stress about planning the route or managing details. However, you will have to adapt to a group setting, but it can be a more affordable option.
So deciding which one to take can be challenging, but you can form your own intimate group with friends or family and enjoy the perks of both a private and group trip.
Any high altitude mountain trek is associated with the occurrence of unfortunate events such as altitude sickness, accidents, or any other health issues.
Langtang Valley trek also comes with these issues, which need to be addressed with helicopter rescues for immediate management. With travel insurance, your helicopter rescue (if needed) cost will be fully reimbursed once you get to your destination.
Additionally, travel insurance for mountain trekking adventures also covers medical costs, which can be quite high in Nepal. Your insurer will also offer round-the-clock assistance, medical repatriation, and protection against cancellations or delays.
Plus, travel insurance will also encompass the unexpected occurrence of natural disasters like landslides and earthquakes. That’s why travel insurance for any multi-day remote trekking in Nepal has now been made mandatory.
Your travel insurance for the Langtang Valley trek should include:
Please provide us with your policy number or a copy when engaging for our Langtang Valley trek.
